Greetings to all my Friends,

*****Background

David first earned his Novice license call WN6ICK in 1974 while a junior high school student. He now holds an Amateur Extra license. His amateur radio interests are DX, contesting and emergency communications. On occasion he mentors or teaches people to become new hams. In addition to amateur radio David is also an licensed pilot and outdoorsman. When he isn’t spending time with his family or working, he enjoys building his amateur radio station, working new countries and serving the community.

David's mentor(Elmer) was Rocco - N6KN A.K.A. Roc

David's current station is a Icome 756 Pro III, Henery Amp., 4 element Steppir with a single 40 meter trombone element, 80 meter dipole, 160 meter series/shunt loaded 60 foot tower and 2m, 70cm and 23cm FM equipment.

Took office as the ARRL's Los Angeles Section Manger

Running for the ARRL's Los Angeles Section Manager

10/2008

The Los Angeles Section ARES Northwest District that I serve has grown from no members a little over three and a half years ago to now approaching 200 dedicated ARES members. We serve most of the major Los Angeles hospitals, Los Angeles County Department of Health and we coordinate and cooperate with several agencies. The growth and member dedication has been phenomenal. We have weekly VHF/UHF nets, stress education, offer ham classes and hold monthly meetings. We are also active communicators at parades, athletic events and other gathering. Many of our served agencies take our licensing classes and now have licensed ham radio staff members. Best of all, ham radio has gained a very positive image and I have been very happy to have worked with this organization.

Changed call from N6HEL to N6HD

Los Angeles N/W ARES contines to grow quickly. Much thanks to for assistance from my friends and ARES officers Assistant DEC Marty N6VI and SEC Dennis KA6GSE. Note: This month, I visited ARRL HQ and my Red Cross / Katrina friends and coworkers living in Mississippi and Tennessee. This is a great group of hardworking ecomm committed individuals.

Appointed ARRL ARES Angeles Section District Emergency Coordinator

09/28/2005

After a long time licensed as a F.C.C. General Class amateur, I passed my Extra Class exam. I choose to retain the N6HEL call sign. At least people remember it!

Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast on August 25th, 2005. The Red Cross called the ARRL for Volunteers. My email said “Report to Montgomery”. I was in Montgomery, Alabama in 15 hours from my home in Los Angeles.

I just returned today from a five day stay in trip to work with the greatest group of amateur operators, while located in Gulfport, Mississippi providing amateur radio services for the Red Cross Katrina relief effort. These amateurs were Bill N9ACQ, Jacky KA1RBC (HS0ZDB) Brian (working on his license), Kevin (Call Unknown) Karl WA5TMC and Amy (Call Unknown). We were the very first Red Cross amateur radio individual deployed by Mobile Alabama Section Manager Greg Sarratt W4OZK to the Mississippi Gulf Coast (Gulfport/Biloxi) for the purpose of operating from and providing support to the Red Cross Shelters. We lacked sleep, comfortable and clean accommodations, towers, beams, amplifiers and fresh vegetable. We endured heat, humidify, gasoline lines, short tempers, egos, frustration and un-reimbursed expenses. We helped people that really need us.

We did it because we cared and each one of us would do it again. We made a difference and so did all the other hams that came subsequently!

My home station is an Icom 756 pro III, Henry Amp and a 4 element SteppIR with 6 meter passive directors and 40/30 element Antenna. I operate 1.6 Mhz through 1.2 Ghz Voice, Data and CW including base and mobile equipment.
